Most of Finer's recent research has concerned the syntax and morphology
of Selayarese and Makassarese, Austronesian languages of southwestern
Sulawesi (Indonesia). Other work has addressed issues in A'-movement,
binding theory, language acquisition, and the syntax of bilingual codeswitching.
His research has been funded by NSF and NEH, and his publications have
appeared in such journals as Linguistic Inquiry, Natural Language and
Linguistic Theory, and The Linguistic Review, as well as in
various edited anthologies. Teaching interests include syntax, general
linguistics, and language acquisition.
